EURO PARTS CANADA HOLDS GRAND OPENING

RIBBON CUTTING - The official ribbon cutting for Euro-Parts took place Friday, Sept. 6. Housed in the former East Wawanosh school, the facility is a warehouse, distribution and call centre for several lines of appliances from European manufacturers.   Jackie Riggs photo

The former East Wawanosh Public School near Belgrave is now the home of Euro-Parts Canada, The European Appliance Store, formerly of Lucknow. The grand opening took place Sept. 6 and 7.

Company president Henry van Heesch explained that Euro-Parts started out in Toronto in March of 1987. When asked why he came to Lucknow, he said that he didn't want to keep driving back and forth to Toronto and this area had the space and lifestyle he was looking for.

The business outgrew its space in Lucknow, and the decision was made to expand into larger quarters.

The new facility is a warehouse, distribution and call centre for parts, as well as provider of refrigeration, laundry appliances, dishwashers and a variety of cooking options from European manufacturers, Liebherr, Franke, AEG and Porter and Charles. All the appliances are Energy Star rated to fit with The European Appliance Store's philosophy, as listed on their website at www.theeruopeanappliancestore.com, of  "... the need for greener technologies that put energy efficiency and sustainable design as top priority in everything they do."

One space in the former school that van Heesch is really excited about is the high tech boardroom. A large screen covering one wall allows van Heesch and his staff to connect to partners and customers in Europe, USA, Canada and around the world by video-link. On another wall is a mural painted by Trish Kikkert depicting the evolution of Euro-Parts including the former store in Lucknow, the new Belgrave facility and the companies and products provided by The European Appliance Store.

By Pauline Kerr
ADVANCE-TIMES EDITOR

Huron Tel has its roots in rural midwestern Ontario - this is where the customers are, along with the skilled employees who are making the company a great success.  The Huron Tel office in Wingham (72 North St,) opened its doors during the summer, but held the official grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 7, with tours, a barbeque, and an opportunity to learn more about this thriving young telecommunications business that's actually been a part of the local community for a hundred years.

Since 2008, Huron Tel has opened offices and installed fiberoptic cable in Goderich, Lucknow, and now Wingham, beginning with the Ripley and Dungannon phone exchanges, both urban and rural areas.  Boasting a young, enthusiastic staff of 34 (all local), Huron Tel celebrated its 100th birthday in 2011.        Grand Opening - Huron Tel officially opened its Wingham office on Sept. 7. From the left, back row, are Darroll Konings (Weber Contracting), Glen Grubb, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, Amy Blake, Sara Bender; front row, Ainsley Simpson, Kendra Lotton, Joanna Collings.
