At 8:58 AM on 12 May, Wingham Police were called to back up an OPP officer on Brussels Line regarding a suspected impaired driver. The Wingham Police officer is qualified in Standard Field Sobriety Testing and determined that further testing was required by a Drug Recognition Expert. The OPP Officer took custody of the person to be evaluated.
At 9:51 AM on 12 May, police received calls regarding a suspected impaired driver in the vicinity of the Macs store on Josephine St in Wingham. A witness was following the vehicle and provided police with updates on location. The Wingham police were able to intercept the vehicle near Bluevale and the officer conducted Standard Field Sobriety Tests. It was determined that the driver was to be assessed by a Drug Recognition Expert. The driver was arrested and transported to the West Grey Police Service where testing was conducted and it was determined that the driver was impaired by a drug. Amy Seidle age 38 of Underwood is charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
At 5:05 PM on 12 May, Wingham Police were called to assist the South Bruce OPP at a collision south of Teeswater involving a van and a horse and buggy. Five of the crash victims were transported to hospital, one of them by air ambulance.
