North Huron Marks Emergency Preparedness Week
Wingham, Ontario - May 2 to May 8 is the15th Annual Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada.  To increase awareness about individual and family preparedness in the Township of North Huron, municipal staff have organized the following activities:
  • Students at Blyth Public School have received children's activity booklets and are encouraged to work on the booklets this week and return them to the municipal office to take part in a draw;
  • An information table has been set up in the municipal office with various pamphlets, guides, posters, and a ballet box where citizens can enter their name for a draw;
  • Information bookmarks about emergency preparedness have been included with water bills.
"This week is an opportunity for individuals and families in North Huron to put together an emergency survival kit or family emergency plan," stated Karen Graham, Municipal Management Intern with the Township of North Huron.  "There are a lot of excellent resources, guides, and templates that every household can use to help them put together an emergency plan.  It's almost impossible to predict an emergency, but we can all take steps to prepare for one."
Emergency Preparedness Week is a Canada-wide joint Federal-Provincial-Territorial-Municipal initiative to increase awareness about individual preparedness.  It emphasizes how the public can reduce the risks and consequences of a disaster by being better prepared.  For more information and to participate in the Emergency Preparedness Challenge, visit www.ontario.ca/beprepared.
