Official Plan

The North Huron Official Plan outlines policies on how land within the Township is permitted to be used. The Official Plan sets out the land use policy directions for long-term growth and development, and resource protection. It is prepared with input from residents and stakeholders and helps to ensure that future planning and development will meet the specific needs of the community.

Township policies are required to conform with the policies in the County of Huron Official Plan and to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement.

An Official Plan considers issues such as:

  • Where new housing, industry, offices and shops will be located;
  • What services (roads, watermains, parks, schools) will be needed;
  • When, and in what order, parts of the community will grow; and
  • Community improvement initiatives.

Applying for an Official Plan Amendment

If you want to use your property or develop it in a way that conflicts with the North Huron Official Plan or the County Official Plan, you will need an Official Plan Amendment. The County of Huron is the approval authority for Official Plan Amendments.
