Key industries that are driving the economic development and investment in our community include agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. North Huron and surrounding areas are home to many small to medium sized industrial businesses, technical expertise and entrepreneurial services.

Agriculture

North Huron takes great pride in its strong agricultural roots.  North Huron’s agricultural community generates quality products and supports many farm service and supply companies, local implement dealers, processing plants and co-ops.  All of these products and services generate a significant economic investment in the region.  

North Huron is part of Huron County where farm gate sales are greater than five Canadian provinces.  Huron County is the leader in the production of soy beans, corn and hogs and is a producer of niche crops for speciality markets.  Huron County is also home to a growing cluster of wineries and breweries.  The well-known Cowbell Brewing Company is located at the edge of Blyth, Ontario. 

Howson and Howson Limited

Since 1971 Howson and Howson Limited have specialized in milling Canadian Western Amber Durum wheat. Their products include: Durum Semolina, Durum White Grain Semolina, Durum Whole Wheat Semolina and Durum 1st Clear Flour. The products produced are pasta, specialty breads, flat breads, whole wheat wraps and couscous. To contact, call (519) 523-4241.

Snobelen Farms Ltd.

An independent, family owned company that was founded in 1971, Snobelen Farms Ltd. Specializes in the production, processing and sales of food grade soybeans, commercial grains and pedigreed seed for markets across Canada and Internationally. To contact, call (519) 528-2092.

Hensall Co-op/Westfield Facility 

Founded in 1937, Hensall Co-op is one of the largest co-operatives in Canada with more than 20 owned locations in Ontario and Manitoba. With customers in more than 40 countries and operations in food products (edible dry beans and food grade soybeans), grain and ingredient marketing, energy (fuel and propane), animal nutrition and global freight forwarding and logistics.  There is a Hensall District Co-op facility located in Westfield, Ontario.  To contact, call (519) 262-3002.

Manufacturing

North Huron’s manufacturing community hosts a variety of industries specializing in assembly, construction, and machinery.

Royal Homes Ltd. 

Royal Homes Ltd. has been manufacturing award-winning modular homes that are shipped to sites across Ontario since 1971. To contact, call (519) 357-2444. 

Wescast Industries Inc. 

Wescast Industries Inc. is one of North America’s foremost suppliers of exhaust manifolds.  Two plants for machining and casting are situated in North Huron and Morris-Turnberry.  To contact, call (519) 357-3450. 

BI-AX International Inc.

BI-AX International Inc. produces rolls of plastic film for food packaging and other industrial applications.  BI-AX is located at 596 Cedar Avenue, Wingham, ON and be reached by phone at: (519) 357-1818. 

Euro-Parts Canada 

Euro-Parts Canada handles service needs across Canada, including after sales-service, warranty work, telephone customer service, parts warehousing and service network training. To contact, call 1-800-678-8352.

Tourism

North Huron boasts a wide selection of tourist attractions for every type of visitor.  From the world-renowned Blyth Festival Theatre and the Alice Munro Literary Garden to a modern aerodrome and premier recreation facilities, we offer something for everyone; the young and the young at heart.

For the naturalist, the area boasts some of Ontario’s premier outdoor destinations. Fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and hiking, coupled with heritage main streets, extraordinary vistas and enchanting local shopping opportunities, promise a remarkable experience.

Wescast is a tier 1 supplier to the automotive market, Wescast provides exhaust manifolds for a wide range of engines, automotive components, including turbo charger housing, integrated turbo manifolds and other specialized powertrain components.

Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance

The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, pediatric, chronic and rehabilitation beds and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.

A Wingham-based and locally owned company Huron Geomatics Inc. (HGI) is a consultancy that focuses on high accuracy data collection, analysis and asset management. Their client-base spans many disciplines from municipal governments, electrical utilities, telecommunications, and the energy sector. HGI's projects have taken them across Canada and internationally.
