The Township of North Huron licences and regulates dogs within the Township of North Huron. All dog owners must licence their dog(s) each year and must fasten their assigned tags to their dog at all times. Dog licences are vital in helping with the safe and easy return of your pet, should they go missing.
To register your dog and receive your dog tag, please complete the Dog Licencing Application Form or visit the Municipal Office at 274 Josephine Street, Wingham.

By-law No. 88-2019 of the Township of North Huron is the by-law governing Animal Control Services within the municipality. For an official version of the Animal Control By-law or if you have questions or concerns regarding the licencing of dogs, please contact the Clerk's Department at 519-357-3550.
Limit on the Number of Dogs |
No person, other than an owner of a kennel which has been properly licenced shall keep more than four (4) dogs per dwelling unit which have surpassed eight (8) weeks of age. |
Licencing and Registration of Dogs |
Every owner of a dog in the Township of North Huron, is required within ten (10) days of acquiring a dog, to be licenced with the Township of North Huron. Every dog owner should be registered and licenced, on or before the 1st of February in each year cause such dog to be again licenced for the one-year period beginning on the 1st of January of that year. |
If You No Longer Own a Dog |
Upon the death, sale or other disposal of the dog, the owners shall notify the Township of North Huron of said changes. The Township of North Huron will update our registry accordingly to ensure that owners are not being unnecessarily charged for a dog tag. |
Lost Tags |
If your dog's tag is lost, please visit the Municipal Office at 274 Josephine Street, Wingham, to purchase a replacement tag. Replacement tags are for purchase for $10.00. |
Fees |
Licencing fees are to be paid in compliance with the Township of North Huron Fees and Charges By-law as amended from time to time. Dog licence fees are set annually and registered dog owners are invoiced. Dog owners listed on the register will be invoiced in January annually as per the fees prescribed by the North Huron Fees and Charges By-Law, unless a Dog Counter Licencee has been contracted. Licence fees are due on February 1st of each year, if payment is not received on or before the due date, a fifteen (15) dollar late fee is applied to each registered dog tag outstanding. |
Applying for a Dog License |
To register your dog and receive your dog tag, please complete the Dog Licencing Application Form or visit the Municipal Office at 274 Josephine Street, Wingham. The Township of North Huron contracts the services of a Dog Counter Licencee every 3 years to ensure that the database is up-to-date. If you have a new dog or are a dog owner who is new to North Huron you must register with the Township on or before the 1st day of February of each year. Registration expires on the 31st day of December each year in which the tag was issued. North Huron shall keep a record of all dogs registered and tagged showing the owners name and address, description of dog and tag number. Dog owners listed on the register will be invoiced in January annually as per the fees prescribed by the North Huron Fees and Charges By-Law. |

North Huron is pleased to announce that it will now accept payment by VISA or MasterCard Credit or Debit card for select municipal bills/services. Through OptionPay, our third-party payment processor, for a nominal processing fee you can make card payment through our website using the the link below, on your smart phone by scanning the QR Code, via phone to the finance group and in our municipal office.
