Swimming Admittance Policy for Recreational Swims |
NHWCC aquatic staff are experts trained in aquatic emergencies. They are required to supervise all patrons and cannot act in a child care capacity. Parental supervision of all children under 11 years old is strongly recommended during all pool visits. Children 6 and under must be accompanied in the water at all times by a responsible parent or guardian 14 years of age or older and must be within arm's reach. Children aged 7-10 may be admitted to the pool without direct supervision provided they pass the NHWCC swim test and are a minimum of 48 inches tall. Children 7-10 who do not pass the NHWCC swim test must have a parent with them in the aquatic center during the swim. Children 11 years plus who have passed the NHWCC swim test may enter the pool unaccompanied. Swimming with a buddy is strongly recommended. Individuals with medical conditions are at greater risk while swimming and should be accompanied by another person with knowledge of their condition. All swimmers must be in proper swim attire. |
Swim Test Criteria |
Swimmers must swim on their front with their face in the water for one length of the leisure pool (20m) without assistance or putting their feet on the bottom of the pool followed by treading water for 30 seconds. The swim test is only for swimmers 7 years plus. |
Wrist Band Policy |
Children 6 and under will be given a red wrist band. These children must be accompanied in the water at all times by parent or guardian 14 years or older who must remain in arms reach at all times. Children 7-10 years of age who pass the swim test will be given a green wrist band and are able to swim unaccompanied and in the deep end. Children 7-10 years of age who do not pass the swim test will be given a red wrist band and must have a parent with them in the aquatic center during the swim and must stay in the shallow water. |
Pool Rules |
One long whistle blast means exit the pool immediately. All swimmers must shower before entering the pool. Shoes, food and drinks are not allowed on the pool deck. Walk on the pool deck and ramp. When entering the jetted area slip in only. Diving from the pool deck in only permitted in the deep end on either side of the diving board. Back dives and back flips are not allowed. Young children in personal flotation devices (PFDs) are allowed in the deep end only during quiet swims and must be accompanied by an adult. Pool noodles and balls are not allowed in the deep end. Be respectful of other swimmers. Listen to the lifeguards at all times. |
What happens if there's an accident in the pool? |
A Pool Fouling will cause the pool to be closed. The pool will be closed a minimum of 1 hour for formed fecal matter and vomit and a minimum of 4 hours of diarrhea. Please help us keep our pool germ free by:
