Marriage Licenses are issued by the Clerk's Department, and are valid for 3 months from the date that they are issued. It is recommended that you apply at least 30 days before your wedding date, to ensure adequate processing time.

What identification can I use to apply? |
You will need two original and valid pieces of government-issued identification, one including photo identification. Any photocopies or expired identification will not be accepted. See the following table for a list of accepted identification:
If one of the above pieces of identification does not include a birth certificate, for either, or both parties, the applicable party must also fill out and sign the waiver form: North Huron Marriage Licence Application – Waiver – Birth Certificate Not Used as Form of Identification. You can order/replace a birth certificate online at: Service Ontario - Get or Replace an Ontario Birth Certificate. If any of your identification is in a language other than English or French, you must present it with an official translation of the document. |
What is the fee for a marriage licence? |
The fee for a marriage licence is $125.00 and is payable by cash, cheque or debit. |
Who can perform my marriage ceremony? |

Does my partner need to come with me? |
It is not necessary for both the applicants to be present to purchase a marriage license. One party may obtain the license provided that the completed and signed application, accepted identification, and any supporting documentation required are provided for both applicants. |
What if my partner or I were previously married? |

Can a minor apply for a marriage licence? |
If any party is 16 or 17 years of age, an additional form must be signed by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the party and submitted with the application. The form can be found here for completion. |
I'm married - now what? |
After the ceremony, the person who performed your wedding provides you with a record of solemnization as a keepsake. This is not a marriage certificate. You may apply for a marriage certificate from Service Ontario six to eight weeks after your marriage ceremony. Couples can complete a Marriage Certificate Application and mail it directly to the Registrar General's office or request the Marriage Certificate online from Service Ontario. |
