Liquor Sales Licence

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) processes and issues Liquor Sales Licences.  Applications for this licence must be submitted through the AGCO website.

To support your AGCO application, you will need the following documents from the municipal office:

  • Agency Letter of Approval from North Huron Building Department
  • Agency Letter of Approval from North Huron Fire Department
  • Municipal Information Form from the Municipal Clerk

An agency letter of approval is also required from the Public Health Department.  Please reach out to Huron Perth Public Health.

Once the Clerk's Department receives the completed Agency Letters of Approval and the Municipal Information Form, the Clerk will circulate your application and any relevant documents to the approving officials and provide you with the required documentation to complete your AGCO application.

Fee: as outlined in the Township of North Huron Fees and Charges By-law

Timeline: Allow a minimum of 30 days for the Township to process your request.

For more information and to access the required forms, visit the AGCO Liquor Licence Sales Licences - Municipal Approval page.

Temporary Outdoor Physical Liquor Licence Extension (Temporary Patios) on Private Property

As of January 1, 2023, liquor licensed premises require municipal approval for temporary outdoor physical extensions (temporary patios).  Previously a municipal letter of non-objection was required by municipalities and approval was granted under the authority of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) Registrar.

The AGCO no longer accepts applications or has the authority to approve temporary patios for licensees located in municipalities. However, licensees must continue to apply to the AGCO for permanent outdoor physical extensions, permanent indoor physical extensions, temporary indoor physical extensions and temporary patios in unorganized territories or on First Nations Reserves where Band Councils do not manage the approval process.

Licensees holding a valid Liquor Sales Licence in the Township of North Huron can apply to temporarily extend their patio area on private property for a maximum of eight (8) months per year. Patio extensions are only considered between April 1st and October 31st each year and are only permitted on private property.

To support your Temporary Patio application, you will be required to include the following documents:

  • A completed Application Form
  • The applicable fee, as outlined in the Township of North Huron Fees and Charges By-law
  • Written confirmation and authorization from the owner of the property (if different from the applicant)
  • A copy of your existing Liquor Sales Licence and any conditions with it
  • A legible sketch/site plan/photo of the proposed temporary patio (must meet the Township's requirements as set out in the Approval Criteria Document)
  • The number and location of any parking spaces, as well as an indication if any loading/delivery/parking spaces are to be removed to facilitate the expansion or creation of a temporary outdoor patio. Accessible parking spaces shall not be temporarily removed.
  • A completed Temporary Outdoor Physical Extensions (Temporary Patios) – Undertaking Form.
  • Any other documentation and supporting materials required to support the temporary patio application.

Once all materials have been received and the Temporary Patio Request has been deemed completed, staff will circulate your information and any relevant documents to the approving officials.  You will be notified of the status of your request via email.

Important: Applicants are still responsible for notifying the AGCO of their approval, the duration of the approval, and any conditions on the approval.

Fee: as outlined in the Township of North Huron Fees and Charges By-law

Timeline: Allow a minimum of 30 days for the Township to process your request.

Special Occasion Permit

The AGCO processes and issues Special Occasion Permits (SOP), which allows for the sale and service of alcohol on special occasions, such as cash bars at weddings or private receptions, as well as larger scale events that are open to the public, such as charity fundraisers.  Applications for SOP's must be submitted through the AGCO website.
